15 Top Cycling Trails in Florida
These top 15 trails have been dubbed “Destination Trails”, because they are worthy of making a 2-3 hour road trip to experience what the trail has to offer.
While Florida is replete with hundreds of bike trails across our great state, only a few reach the level of being deemed a “Destination Trail”.
At Florida Cycling we identify a “Destination Trail” when it includes: noteworthy natural beauty, a variety of scenery, a quieter setting, variety of lengths for short or long rides, is well maintained, and is easily accessible.
Here is a listing of our previously posted articles about “Destination Trails. They are in among the dozens and dozens of posts on the Florida Cycling Newsletter site. However, to make it easier for you to find them, they are listed here with a link, so you can go right to the trails that interest you.
A number of these trails are paved and can be explored on a road bike with tires of any width. Others are gravel roads or single-track paths and can best be ridden with a gravel bike, mountain bike or wide tire road bike.
While the trails above reach the level of being a “Destination Trail”, there is also a listing on our companion website FloridaCycling.us where you can find hundreds of routes and trails for road, gravel and MTB enthusiasts.
The great thing about riding on a trail is that you are away from road traffic. No vehicles to contend with. While trails are safe from being struck by a vehicle, you still need to keep alert for changing conditions on the trails, potential hazards, and wildlife crossing the trail among other things.
Wearing a helmet is always a good idea, even on trails. Because if you fall, a helmet can prevent brain injury which takes more time to heal, than a broken bone or trail rash.
Is there a trail that you would like to nominate for being a “Destination Trail” in 2026? Leave a comment below or email editor@FloridaCycling.us.
Enjoy exploring a new trail over the holidays and into the new year!
Ride often. Ride safe.
